We started producing illustrations using FreeHand in 1990 using a small Apple Mac SE with a 9" screen. Fortunately, computers have improved dramatically, but the skill required to create illustrations from nothing more than a few plans is still mostly in the hands of the illustrator.

Examples

Northumbria University : FreeHand Illustration
Title: Crest

Northumbria University had their Coat of Arms/Crest commissioned by the Heraldic Society. However, the original was created as a watercolour and they needed to be able to reproduce the image in a variety of sizes and a variety of formats.

The finsihed artwork was created in FreeHand and can be output to any size from a file that is under 1MB as opposed to a 30-40MB scan.

Title: Blast Bullet

Illustration of Blast and Bullet proof window. Created in FreeHand from cross-sections supplied by client. Finished product was not available, so the only way to create the drawing was to visualise it from cross-sectional plans.
